Kool-Aid Lip Balm

This blog post has been on my to-do list for a while now. This craft came about when I was asked to come up with ideas for an activity to do at a MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) meeting where the topic was pampering. I got on google and started researching and decided we would make bath salts and lip balms. I originally had the idea that we would make beeswax lip balm but after I found instructions on vaseline/kool-aid lip balm (I found it on www.allfreecrafts.com) I changed my mind. The change was made for many reasons...1. it was inexpensive 2. it was super easy 3. the ingredients are easy to find (you might even have all of them) and 4. it sounded like it would be fun for the Moms and something they could do later with their kids.

When we did this craft at my MOPS meeting it was a HUGE success so I did as I intended everyone else to and bought the supplies to do it with my kids.

What you need:
-Petroleum Jelly
-Flavoring (we have used kool-aid, chocolate, honey)
-Plastic sandwich bags
-Hot Water/Bowl
-A container to put finished lip balm in (at MOPS we bought special lip balm containers at www.specialtybottles.com but they were a little pricey...at home I used the little quarter machine toy containers...$.25 (with toy:)) and they worked great)
-Scissors
What you do:
-Fill a bowl with hot water.
-Put a scoop of petroleum jelly in a plastic sandwich bag
-Hold the sandwich bag of petroleum jelly in the hot water until it is softened
-Put desired flavoring in the bag (amount depends on how flavorful you want it)
-Work the sandwich bag until the petroleum jelly and the flavoring are smooth (you might have to put it back in the hot water a few times)
-Cut a small corner off the bag
-Squeeze into the container

I hope you enjoy this craft as much as we did! :)
